A toilet roll manufacturer is celebrating after it received an ‘international standards’ excellence award.

Punjab Paper Converters was presented the ISO (International Standards Organisation) award at its base at on Lower Eccleshill Road, Darwen.

Russ Archer, Senior Lead at ISOQAR who carried out the inspection of the company said: “The firm passed at their first attempt which really says something.

“We were impressed with all aspects of the business from sales, maintenance and goods inwards. It was a two-day assessment which looks at different areas within the business and we are delighted to be awarding the certificate today.”

John Flanagan, Systems Manager at the company said: “Something like this is vital for a business of this nature.

“It shows that 24 hours a day and seven days a week you are doing the right thing and this gives a great deal of confidence and trust to our customers and suppliers.

“It was what were expecting as we have a very hard-working team here.”

In November last year the company unveiled a new £5m machine which at full capacity, can produce 750 pallets – 1.5m rolls in 24 hours. This is up from 150 pallets which the firm’s other machines can produce in the same period.

The machine took 8 months to manufacture and then eight weeks to ship over to the Lower Darwen site from Tuscany.
